Town of Whitestown and Worth Township to Host “Merger of Local Governments” Informational Meeting

(Meeting will provide a question and answer forum on the proposed merger of local governments for the upcoming November 6, 2012 referenda vote.)

Whitestown, IN. (October 25) – The Town of Whitestown will host the evening of November 1st an informational meetings on the November 6 referenda vote. The “Merger of Governments” forum will provide information on the ballot question for the November election regarding the proposed merger of the Town of Whitestown and Worth Township into a single political entity.

“The proposed merger of Town and Worth Township is up for vote in the November 6 general election,” said Whitestown Town Council President Dawn Semmler. “We encourage voters to attend the informational meeting, visit our website and be educated on this important decision that will eliminate a layer of government in the community they live in.”

The meeting will take place Thursday, November 1 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm for a question and answer at the Whitestown Fire Station located at 2695 S 575 EAST, WHITESTOWN, IN 46075

Voters can expect to hear from representatives advocating for the reorganized government. Town officials will be on hand at the meeting to answer questions about the proposed reorganized/merged town form of government.

The Final Question Is on the Ballot

The final Reorganization Plan has been approved by both the Worth Township Advisory Board and the Whitestown Town Council.  A copy can be found on the Reorganization Plan page.

The fate of the plan is now in the hands of the voters.  The question “Shall the Town of Whitestown and Worth Township reorganize as a single political subdivision?” will be placed on the November 6, 2012 ballot.

For the plan to pass, it must be approved by a majority of the registered voters of incorporated Whitestown and a majority of the registered voters of unincorporated Worth Township.  If either vote is not a majority, the plan will not pass.

Please cast your vote on November 6, 2012.

May 24, 2012 Public Meeting

The Worth Township Advisory Board and the Whitestown Town Council will meet in a joint session for the purpose of a public workshop and study session regarding the reorganization.  The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2012 and will be held at the Whitestown Fire Station (2695 S 575 East).

December 1, 2011 Worth Township Public Meeting

The Worth Township Trustee and Advisory Board will host a public forum for the presentation of the reorganization plan on Thursday, December 1, 2011.  The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held at the LA Cafe, 4 S. Main Street, Whitestown.

The Reorganization Plan Has Been Submitted

The Reorganization Plan was submitted to the governments of Worth Township and the Town of Whitestown on October 13, 2011.  A copy can be found on the Reorganization Plan page.

The governments of each unit must now review the plan.  They must also hold a public meeting in order to hear the plan.  We will attempt to keep you updated as to the time of these meetings on this home page.
